Incognito Mode
Claude offers an incognito (private) mode that lets users have conversations without saving them to history or using them to improve the model. The mode is toggled via a ghost icon in the header.

What's happening
Claude surfaces incognito mode via a ghost icon in the top-right of the composer. When active, conversations are not stored in history and are not used for model improvement, giving users a way to explore sensitive or one-off topics without leaving a trace.
Patterns
Ghost icon toggles incognito mode; clear affordance for private conversations
Incognito conversations are not saved to history or used for memory
UX Insights
- •Single icon in header keeps the feature discoverable without cluttering the composer
- •Ghost metaphor is widely understood for "private" or "no trace" mode
- •Aligns with user expectations from browser incognito and private search
Design Decisions
Incognito mode is treated as a first-class control rather than a buried setting, reflecting the importance of privacy and ephemeral use cases for AI assistants.
